Why should the tester and the remediation crew be different companies?
Because the tester decides how much work there is. Florida's licensing law bars a mold assessor from remediating a property it assessed within the last twelve months for exactly that reason, and it bars referral fees in both directions. An independent report is the one an adjuster, a buyer or a court takes seriously.
Can I just buy a home mold test kit?
Petri-dish kits grow something in nearly every Florida house because spores are everywhere outdoors; they cannot tell you whether the indoor level is abnormal. A lab-analyzed air sample compared against an outdoor control does. For a visible patch with an obvious cause, skip the testing and fix the cause.
